Business taking charge of Green Logistics in Brazil
The Brazilian Green Logistics Program (PLVB) was founded in 2016 after two workshops hosted by Smart Freight Centre with businesses operating in Brazil. Two years later, PLVB launched its manual to guide companies with the selection and implementation of best practices that improve freight efficiency and reduce emissions. The aim is to develop a label for shippers and carriers that act as leaders and reduce freight emissions.
Sophie Punte of Smart Freight Centre, who helped found the PLVB two years ago, gave a presentation on Smart Freight Leadership. She explained the five behaviors that leading companies adopt: calculate and report emissions, set targets, implement actions, collaborate across the logistics chain, and advocate for a long-term strategy and pro-active public policy.
Collaboration with PLVB will continue, in particular on implementing the GLEC Framework and making use of LEARN outputs to support this; in training fleet managers on fleet energy efficiency; and on developing a PLVB label that is aligned with Smart Freight Leadership.
